Broseph E. Lee, the self-titled debut EP from the Southern Illinois band is a winner! From the first chords of "Ghost Of Johnny Cash," a song Tom Petty would be proud of by the way, I was immediately hooked. A brilliant salute to the late country legend. "Livin' For The Weekend" is a song every working man (and woman) can relate to. Full of catchy guitar hooks, it made me remember every smoky bar I have ever been in on a Saturday night, listening to a local band blow the roof off the joint. The mandolin on "Bear Mountain" gives it a nice Appalachian feel, and "Whiskey Revenge" starts out haunting, then whips into a flurry of guitars, with a hook big enough to rip your face off. "Sugar Creek" has a nice jam-band feel, the perfect song to have with you on a float trip. The EP wraps with the whimsical "Booze", the band's salute to the elixir of the gods. The lyrics are honest, the musicianship is top notch, and I look forward to hearing much, much more from this promising new band. One of the top local releases of 2013!
